St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church originated in 1872 at Druid Hill Avenue and McMechen Street, with 34 charter members. Growth, change and a merger with the Lutheran Church of the Atonement led to the constructing of a new church 47 years later at Baker and Longwood streets. At that location, St. Paul's Church served the Walbrook section of Baltimore from 1923 to 1955. On Sunday, January 27, 1957, the congregation assembled at the
new site on Pastors of St. Paul's during it's 125 years include the Rev. Jacob A. Clutz, 1873-1883; the Rev. Ephraim Felton, 1883-1887; the Rev. W. P. Evans, 1887-1892; the Rev. Charles R. Trowbridge, 1892-1896; the Rev. Philip A. Heilman, 1897-1929; the Rev. John B. Rupley, 1929-1941; the Rev. Hugo W. Schroeder, 1941-1967 and the Rev. Donald A. Haas, 1967-1999, Pastor C. Andrew Carr, 1999-2003. Assistant and associate pastors have been the Rev. Richard E. Martin, 1961-1963; and the Rev. Hans Goebel, 1963-1967; the Rev. Peter W. F. Nodyne, 1968-1971; Pastor David Werley, 1971-1977; and Rev. James Roth, 1978-1982. As we celebrate this 125 Anniversary, St. Paul's Lutheran Church looks back over the last 125 years with a feeling of gratitude, and looks forward to the future with renewed dedication to serving our Lord and Savior.
